Primary Role
Responsible for developing and executing the sourcing strategy for one or more categories of goods and services with an aggregate annual spend of $ 35-75 M. This position is expected to make a significant contribution to meeting company cost reduction goals.
Key Accountabilities
Builds relationships with clients across the operating units to understand business requirements and to build confidence in the sourcing organization. Influences other business leaders to drive standardization, manage specifications, and control demand. Define and prioritize sourcing strategies and related projects.
Establish category priorities that balance costs and benefits. Lead teams to deliver annual total cost of ownership (TCO) savings and cost avoidances in line with established targets. Develop financial projections and business cases to support proposed changes
Use sourcing subject matter expertise and supplier industry knowledge to establish should cost models, identify opportunities, and drive supplier negotiations. Actively monitor industry trends and develop strategies to manage costs.
Manage vendor relationships to maintain a cooperative atmosphere while jointly eliminating inefficiencies and reducing costs. Resolves quality and delivery issues with suppliers.
Develop, implement, and monitor KPI's for both supplier and category performance. Define and implement improvement plans as necessary. Communicate results to the broader organization in a way that builds understanding of and confidence in sourcing capabilities.
Recognize and appropriately act on supplier development opportunities.
Lead supplier diversity initiatives for the category to drive incremental savings
Knowledge / Skills
Strategic sourcing experience across a range of categories and strategies. Demonstrated ability to drive value through tactics other than price negotiation (e.g. specification management, demand management, joint process improvement).
Understanding of best practices in sourcing and vendor management in both utilities and other industries.
Knowledge of relevant supply markets and understanding of sources of supply market intelligence. Experience analyzing industry trends and conditions to inform sourcing strategies.
Technical understanding of the category or categories being managed Understanding of Lean / Six Sigma concepts and tools and experience applying them.
Knowledge of information systems and application to procurement. Strong financial and budget knowledge with the ability to develop performance measurement goals consistent with commercial equivalents. Background in operations management and the ability to develop and measure asset performance.
Proven leadership experience. Ability to work on various assignments. Strong reasoning, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills including financial analysis.

Verbal and written communications skills (e.g. presentations, listening, report writing).
Good interpersonal skills (tact/diplomacy, persuasion, co-operation) and ability to influence others.
Strong collaborative client relations skills.
Understanding of Strategic Sourcing policies and practices and ability to teach others.
Proficiency in MS Excel,Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, and web based communication tools. SAP knowledge (preferred).

Minimum seven years of experience in strategic sourcing and category management.
Three or more years of experience in sourcing similar goods / services (preferred).
Demonstrated leadership in successful sourcing organization.
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Engineering or related discipline required. MBA or masters in a quantitative discipline desired.
